A variety of cultural events marked Basava Jayanti celebrations in the city on Saturday.

Devotees of social reformer Basavanna marched from Basaveshwara Circle to Ravindra Kalakshetra. Members of Vachana Jyothi Balaga took part in ‘Basava Utsava’. Artists from across the state rendered vachanas at the utsava and participants marched through various parts of the city chanting his teachings. The event, flagged off by Kannada scholar M Chindananda Murthy, culminated at Town Hall with an array of cultural programmes.

Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, who took part in the Basava Jayanti celebrations, said, “His values and principles should be adopted by all. He was a great social reformer.” At the Basava Jayanti programme organised by Kannada and Culture Department, Minister for Municipal Administration and Veerashaiva Mahasabha general secretary Eshwar Khandre said works are on to develop Basavakalyan taluk of Bidar district on the lines of Kudalasangama.
