2 held for theft bid

The Shivajinagar police have arrested two youths from Jharkhand who were attempting theft. The suspects have been identified as Haaroon Sheikh, 20, and Ajiz Sheikh, 21.

The night patrolling police spotted the two when they were drilling a hole in the wall of a  jewellery shop to commit theft.  The two attacked the policeman who went to arrest them. However, they were overpowered and caught, police said.

The incident occured early Friday around 2.30 am at Heera Jewellery Shop on Jain Temple Street. Policemen on night patrolling were alerted when they heard a huge sound after a glass panel fell down when the due were drilling a hole. The suspects told the police that they came to the City three days ago. They also confessed to having burgled Vivek Jewellery Shop near Pavithra Paradise Hotel in Basaveshwaranagar.

Worker mowed down

A 45-year-old contract worker with BBMP was mowed down by a hit-and-run vehicle near NGEF junction on Old Madras Road on Friday. According to Indiranagar Traffic police Subramani, 45, was crossing the road when the speeding car struck him.
