Three women were killed and two seriously injured when the car they were travelling by collided head-on with a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus on National Highway 48 near Mururu handpost in Magadi Taluk, Ramanagara District, on Wednesday morning.
The five were on their way to Dharmasthala when the accident occurred.While Shobha, 37, a resident of Vijayanagar, Vinutha, 32, a resident of Laggere, and Preethi Thomas, 45, a resident of Banaswadi and native of Kerala, died on the spot, Shwetha, 24, the younger sister of Vinutha, and Nithin Chandra, 35, suffered serious head injuries and are being treated at a private hospital in Nelamangala.
Vinutha was at the wheel when the accident occurred. She lost control while trying to negotiate a road hump.
As the car was at high speed, it ran over the central median and collided with the Bangalore-bound KSRTC bus coming in the opposite direction. Passersby informed the police, who rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to a hospital.
“Chandra and Shwetha are being treated at the intensive care unit and doctors have said that Chandra’s condition is critical,” a police officer said.
Vinutha was working as an officer in Life Insurance Corporation and was on her way to Dharmasthala with her younger sister and their friends. A case has been registered in Kuduru police station and investigation is on.
