An ambulance driver was arrested for drunk driving on Friday night. The suspect Ravi (39), is a native of Doddaballapur. He is attached to Manasa Trinity Hospital, Doddaballapur.

The police were conducting a special drive against drunk driving near Town Hall. They intercepted an ambulance being driven recklessly around 12.30 am. The police stopped the ambulance and subjected Ravi to an alcometer test. The result indicated 180 mg of alcohol in his blood which is over four times above the permissible limit.

"Ravi told us that he dropped a patient at his house in JP Nagar, consumed liquor at a bar in Jayanagar and was proceeding to Doddaballapur," said a police officer.

The police have decided to check ambulance drivers strictly as they are found to be misusing the lenience shown by the police.

"We normally don't obstruct the movement of ambulances as they carry patients. However, many ambulance drivers take advantage of this and even switch on the siren even when they are not ferrying patients," the officer added.
