Drivers of the government-run ‘108’ ambulances are contemplating holding a nationwide protest with various demands they claim have not been looked into for a long time now.
Following a meeting held in the City on Tuesday, the employees who work for GVK EMRI have decided to hold talks with leaders from other parts of the county, including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, on the issue.
GVK EMRI offers the service in 14 other states across the country.
Among the various demands that the 108 ambulance drivers’ association has put forth are a hike in their salaries, increased job security and additional payment for overtime duty.
In a recent meeting with the top officials from GVK, the police department and the KSRTC, Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader directed that smooth functioning of the service must be ensured. He warned that strict action would be taken if norms were violated.
