R Ranganna (53), resident of Moodalapalya, Nagarbhavi, was returning home after finishing duty on his Cheetah vehicle at 10.15 pm. He fell down from the motorcycle as an unidentified vehicle hit him. He was crushed to death under the wheels of another unknown vehicle coming from behind.

Ranganna had joined the police force more than 30 years ago. He was posted at Ulsoor Gate Police Station one-and-a-half year ago and was working as an investigation officer. "He was an able and efficient officer. He was fairly good at collecting information on crime incidents. We surely miss him," Ulsoor Gate Sub-Inspector Shashidhar told Deccan Herald.

Although driver of the vehicle fled immediately after the mishap, a surveillance camera installed at the junction has captured the footage of the incident. This will help in arresting the culprit.

Ranganna is survived by a son and a daughter. DCP (West Traffic) Panduranga H Rane and other senior police officers visited the spot.  The body has been kept at Victoria Hospital where a post mortem will be conducted on Monday.
