The BBMP  on Wednesday complained against illegal encroachment by two institutions near the Kudlu gate in Bommanahalli.

Members of the BBMP standing committee, town planning and development, said that the GS Institute and SNS Institute have built multi-storeyed villas on the  rajakaluve. This was found during an inspection by the committee members.

"The owners have not obtained a building plan approval from the BBMP. They should have left a buffer zone of 75 m from the lake. But only two to three metres are left," said committee chairman, Shakeel Ahmed.

According to Ahmed, there are about 38 villas, which were all sold for Rs 4 crore. The officers have not taken any action against the owners even if they have violated norms, he said.

"There is an increase in building plan violations, and there are about 15 to 20 such buildings in the Bommanahalli zone itself. There is a possibility that officers are also involved in this process. There should be an inspection and the engineers concerned should be suspended," said N Nagaraj, a member of the committee.

Treatment plant

After conducting an inspection on Wednesday, Mayor R Sampath Raj asked BBMP officers to set up a leachate treatment plant near Bellahalli and Mittaganahalli.

"It is possible to fill up the landfill in a scientific way using  this method. We are also planning to build a park and a playground after this," he said.
