BBMP not doing much to curb Chikungunya

These areas have more than 50 local clinics and nearly 40 persons are said to be suffering from Chikungunya.

A few residents alleged that the BBMP deputy commissioner visited only once and failed to take any steps. When contacted, Chief Health Officer L T Gayatri said, Chikungunya has to be treated at source by not letting the mosquitoes to breed. The disease could be avoided by keeping the surroundings clean, she added.

Says Dr Yusuff Khan, local physician around 50 people with symptoms of Chikungunya visit his clinic every day and expresses his inability to collect blood samples of all the patients.

Meanwhile, Musheer (9), who was admitted to a hospital due to high fever on Wednesday, succumbed on Saturday. Doctors treating him said, the child might have died due a different infection and not
Chikungunya.
