Come Friday, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will take up pothole filling and road asphalting on a war footing as the weather has turned favourable.

The civic agency has come under attack for the unmotorable road conditions across the City. The recent accident near Ramakrishna Ashram in Basavanagudi further fuelled public anger.
Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy said though it was proposed to start the work from Thursday itself, the large scale upgradation work requires preparatory time. Hence, the Friday night schedule.

Priority basis
Reddy said, “We will take up major roads on a priority basis. These roads have heavy vehicular movement during the day. Hence, we have decided to work at night.” Contractors will be liable for repairing roads which have turned bad even before the maintenance period has lapsed. For every ward, grants of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh have been released for pothole filling.

Taking note of a bright and sunny Wednesday, Mayor Reddy and BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik immediately convened a meeting and set the Friday night deadline for starting the road repairs.
