The BBMP is planning to create awareness on summer diseases, as the season usually brings infections that are spread through water and food.

The civic body has also taken precautionary measures to check communicable diseases in the summer months.

"We usually conduct awareness programmes on seasonal diseases as mentioned in the health department guidelines," said a senior BBMP health department official.

He said the Palike strictly follows the guidelines, besides setting up round-the-clock help desks at the BBMP hospitals with emergency medicines, including IV fluids and ORS packets. Health officials said food poisoning, heat stroke, allergies, jaundice, typhoid, cholera, amoebic dysentery and diarrhoea commonly occur during the summer. Water-borne diseases occur due to contamination of the drinking water system.

Cautioning against dehydration due to high temperature, they urged the public to drink filtered water.

"Public toilets and urinals in the city are cleaned every day with bleaching powder and phenol. Doctors in private hospitals and clinics are requested to alert the civic authority about any outbreak of communicable diseases," a health official said.
