The National Green Tribunal on Tuesday directed the Karnataka Government to submit a detail action plan within 10 days about steps taken to clean Bellandur lake in Bengaluru.

The green bench headed by Swatanter Kumar said the action plan should mention about desilting of lake, setting up sewage treatment plants and effective solid waste management in the surrounding of lake.

Expressing unhappiness over the submission made by state government on measures taken to save the water body, the bench said it wanted concrete action plan with time line on its cleaning. The bench posted the matter for hearing on September 8.

Taking serious note about the fresh froth emanating from the lake, the Tribunal last week summoned the top officials from the state government to explain what action the government took on directions issued by it earlier.

On February 20, the NGT had taken suo motu cognizance of media reports and photographs of the incident in which fire broke out in Bengaluru lake and issued notice to the Karnataka Government.

The tribunal also directed the state government to take number of steps to protect the water body including closing down the polluting industries in the vicinity of lake, setting up sewage treatment plants.
