Resembling a ‘second freedom struggle’ on the eve of 64th Independence Day, hundreds of youth took out a motorcycle rally under the banner of India Against Corruption (IAC). The rally started from Basavanagudi and culminated at Freedom Park sending home a message that India wants freedom from corruption.
Wearing special tee shirts carrying the message of anti-corruption movement and holding Tricolours, the members took out the rally from the Bull Temple road raising slogans like ‘Vande mataram’, ‘Down-down corruption’, ‘Anna Hazare zindabad’ and ‘Corruption saaku.’
The participants halted at the Government High School ground on Bull Temple Road to lecture the boys playing there about the evils of corruption.
The procession then moved towards Idgah Maidan at Chamarajpet. All along the way the members distributed pamphlets informing the awestruck onlookers about their movement for a strong Jan Lokpal Bill to get rid of corruption.
Many elderly persons who came out of their houses hearing slogans told Deccan Herald that the rally carries the fervour of the freedom struggle.
Padmanabhan, an octogenarian who was walking on the pavement at Basavanagudi, said, “Such movements are necessary from time to time to wake up youth from their slumber.
Whether the Lokpal Bill is passed or not but the temperament I am witnessing today is unprecedented.”
Elsewhere in the City, the members of ‘People from Cleaner India’ took out a ‘Prabhaat Pheri’ from Food Day circle in HSR Layout Sector 6 to BDA Complex in the morning.
