Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi a dictator.

“A pro-people government will never resort to scrapping of notes without prior preparation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes without any preparation, an act which only a dictator can do,” Siddaramaiah said while speaking at a conference on ‘Effects of Demonetisation on Co-operative Banks’ organised by Secretariat Co-operative Society at the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha.

“About 1.86 lakh crore notes were scraped, while 52,919 scrapped notes were remitted to banks. In return, the government did not release enough notes. Notes haven’t been replenished in many kiosks due to shortage of notes,” he observed. Siddaramaiah said even Nobel laurate Amartya Sen was not in favour of demonetisation.

Modi had claimed that the demonetisation would end corruption, black money and terrorism, but that things did not happen, the chief minister said.
