Denied ambulance, father transports boy's body on two-wheeler

A man was compelled to shift the body of his three-year-old son on his two-wheeler as doctors at the Government Hospital in Anekal reportedly refused to shift the body in an ambulance.

But the doctors have denied negligence on their part. Raheem was playing near his house at Anekal on Sunday evening. He was mowed down by a bike when he ran across the main road at 7.30 pm near Karpur Gate. The victim’s parents hail from Assam and have settled in Anekal as labourers.

Dr Anitha, duty doctor at the Hospital on Sunday night, said: “The boy was dead when he was brought to the hospital around 8 pm. We examined and told the father that he had died half an hour ago. As soon as the news broke, the boy’s father grabbed the body and ran away.”

Hurdle for post-mortem
Anitha said the father did not even permit the doctors to conduct a post-mortem and complete formalities. “Doctors should enter details in the death book, besides informing the local police about accident-related deaths. Doctors can arrange the ambulance after informing the police. In this case, the father did not give us any chance to do our duty,” she said and added that the hospital had reported the matter to the police, seeking a probe.

Jnana Prakash, District Health Officer, termed the incident unfortunate.  “Doctors should have been cautious while handling the case. They should not have permitted the parents to take away the body without post mortem.” He said he would enquire into the matter and take action if doctors are found guilty.

The police said the identity and other details of Raheem’s parents are yet to be ascertained.
