The EWS quarters at Ejipura  has hit yet another roadblock. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike engineers are not sanctioning the building plan for the last three years.

The original occupants of the EWS quarters near National Games Village, who were rendered homeless due to substandard quality of quarters and subsequent demolition, have highlighted Palike engineers' apathy in their fresh petition to the BBMP commissioner. This apathy has resulted in an enormous delay in the construction of their quarters, they said.

In their petition, dated February 8, the allottees said they were 'the unfortunate original allottees' whose struggle for a proper, safe roof, is unending.

The petitioners said, “The BBMP in the first place sold the flats which were unfit for human habitation due to the bad quality of construction. When these flats started collapsing like ninepins, the Palike gave a written assurance to the allottees that they would demolish these structures, reconstruct the flats and hand over the ready-for-occupation flats to the original allottees.”

The flats were demolished in 2007. But the Palike did nothing to live up to its promise. Further, the civic body has created a third-party interest on the land, meant only for the EWS, and a legal battle ensued.
