Fire broke out at a garbage processing unit at Tanniranahalli at Doddabelavangala hobli, Doddaballapur taluk, on Friday evening.
Residents of Tanniranahalli alerted the police even as huge flames and smoke billowed from the unit, affecting residents in the surrounding areas. Personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
In the past, it is claimed that insiders of Terra Firma Biotechnologies Ltd set on fire the garbage heaps as they failed to segregate wet and dry waste which affected Gundlahalli and Chigarenahalli villages in Doddaballapur taluk.
Residents believe that same thing might have repeated at Tanniranahalli too. Following the incident, police have beefed up security in the area.
