HC asks BBMP to get council OK for ward panel members

The high court on Wednesday directed the BBMP to get the approval of the BBMP council on ward committee members before the next hearing.

A division bench comprising Justice B S Patil and Justice B V Nagarathna, hearing a batch of petitions with regard to solid waste management, also directed BBMP to complete the verification of pourakarmikas in a month’s time.

The bench also sought a report on the status of the bio-mining work being carried out at Mavallipura landfill. The bench directed BBMP to complete these requirements by the next hearing on November 10.

Kathayayini Chamaraj of Civic Bangalore submitted detailed objections to the ward committee members being appointed. The report found a violation in the appointment of 29 ward committee members from many wards.

The violations include appointing family members, non-residents of wards, omitting resident welfare association representatives. Of the 500 applications sent to BBMP for ward committee members, all were rejected without any reasons.
