The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday refused to stay the shifting of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to Ramanagaram.

Hearing a petition filed by Dr B R Ramakrishna, principal, Sushrutha Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital and others, Justice A S Bopanna directed RGUHS and the state government to file their objections.

Counsel representing RGUHS filed a memo stating that the university will only be shifting the engineering section and not the entire university. The counsel said that the shifting will be carried out in a phased manner without affecting students.

The government counsel said that shifting of RGUHS is a policy decision and the discretion of the government. The decision was taken in 2007, but could not be executed due to various reasons. RGUHS headquarters is Ramanagaram according to the provisions of the University Act. The petitioners have sought directions to recognise RGUHS at Bengaluru as an additional campus.
