The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday sentenced Sunil H B, a sub inspector at Kaggalipura police station, to a one-month jail term and a fine of Rs 2,000 for disrespecting the court's order.

A division bench of Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice John Michael Cunha passed the order while hearing a contempt of court petition filed by the high court registrar general against Sunil.

In 2016, Sunil posted at the Kaggalipura police station refused to accept the bail copy issued by a court to release an accused in the criminal case. He even threw the order saying that he has seen many such orders.

Later in the day, Suil completed the formalities and released the accused. Following this, the advocate of the accused had filed a contempt of case against the police officer in the Sessions Court.

The case was later transferred to the high court following which a suo motu contempt of court case was taken up against the sub-inspector.
