The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday granted a stay on the chief secretary’s order to probe into the affairs of the Sri Ramachandrapura Mutt.

The mutt had moved the court challenging the chief secretary’s order in a petition filed by Edurkala Ishwara Bhat and others, who had sought directions to the government to investigate and regulate the affairs of the mutt.

The chief secretary had directed the Muzrai department commissioner to constitute a committee to probe into the affairs of the mutt.

The mutt has moved the court contending that the chief secretary has no authority to order such probe.
Justice Vineet Kothari has ordered notice to state government and granted four weeks’ time to file their objections.
