This is West Indies spinner Samuel Badree’s second stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He took his first IPL hat trick when playing for RCB against the Mumbai Indians in the city recently.

Samuel says that it is his focus on staying fit that has helped him tide over tough times. His mantra is always to remain calm and focussed both on and off the field. Samuel, who is in the city to endorse evoSPEED 1.5 Cricket Spike from Puma, talks to Nina C George about his love for the game.

What your definition of fashion?

I pick clothes are that fashionable, and suit the occasion. I dress according to the time and place that I am in.

Do you experiment with food?

I love Indian food. The spicier the food, the better it is for me. The food that is made here is very similar to what is made back home.

Do you watch Bollywood movies?

When I was a child, there used to be a Hindi movie in television every Sunday, and I used to watch it with much interest. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’.

Any actor that you admire?
I don’t thing there’s any Indian actor who can match up to the standards set by Amitabh Bachchan. He’s got brilliant style and an imitable personality.

How do you tide over tough situations?

I try to remain calm and composed in any situation. If you get worked up then you can’t think and execute your plans with clarity.

If not a cricketer, then?

I am also a professional physical instructor and fitness trainer.

Do you think the young generation is conscious about staying fit?

Obesity and lifestyle diseases have increased among young adults. Children spend more time on gadgets and less time playing out in the open. I think it is time to relook at the physical training programme in schools.
