A number of cleanliness initiatives were undertaken in the City on Sunday.
About 50 students and teachers of the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B) cleaned their campus on Bannerghatta Road.
Equipped with brooms and dustbins, the students swept the pavements near the campus and painted the institution’s compound wall with colours of the upcoming college cultural festival.
The institute also nominated nine other colleges including IIMs, NITs and BITS to continue the initiative.
Members of All India Marwadi Yuva Manch (AIMYM), Udaan and mahila wing Jagriti organised a cleanliness programme wherein Avenue Road, Vijayanagar and the road linking Lalbagh to Shantinagar was cleaned. More than 300 people, including children, took part in the programme.
AIMYM members said that they launched the cleanliness drive in 511 cities across 15 states at the same time on Sunday.
Sudheendra and Channakeshava, two civic activists undergoing civic leadership training from B.PAC, organised a waste management awareness programme in their respective wards.
It was followed by a walkathon by local government schools students. The initiative was flagged off by corporator of Nagapura ward S Harish.
