The humanities department of Kristu Jayanti College recently hosted the second edition of ‘Lumos – Adding Light to Life’, a photography exhibition, that featured over 300 photographs, contributed by 25 students and six teachers.

In addition to the exhibition, the highlight was also the release of ‘Pixel’, a 16-page magazine that focussed on street photography with the theme ‘The streets are alive’.

The students spent a lot of time just going around the City and clicking random pictures and they said that they enjoyed their tryst with the camera.

The students also learnt how to effectively use the techniques of the camera to capture a picture.

“The event explored various trends in photography, techniques and styles”, said Jeevan Raj, the student coordinator of the photography and movie club.

Rijo, a final-year student and a photography buff, commented on the diverse level of styles that were covered by the student photographers who submitted their entries.

“It was the first time for me to witness an exhibition of this nature. There was so much variety in the submission and themes,” said Lakshmi Naish, a first-year student of journalism.

Sanal Kumar, a final-year student, appreciated the efforts of the staff in encouraging the students to go out and explore the world of photography.

“We were overwhelmed by the involvement of the teaching staff who also contributed to the collection on display. So it didn’t really feel like we were working alone.”

Jenin Raj, faculty of journalism department, said, “We don’t miss an opportunity to encourage the students to do something in addition to academics. It is important that they practise and work on things related their stream in academics. This photography exhibition has brought out the best in them.”
