The High Court on Tuesday directed Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board ( KIADB) to pay  Rs 5,000 to 10 hoteliers for harassing them to shift the bars attached to their hotels to another location.

Hoteliers had moved the court challenging the order of the Deputy Commissioner of Excise, who had issued notices to them to shift their bars from the KIADB area.

KIADB had objected to liquor vends operating in the area and had asked the Excise Department to shift them. Hoteliers contended that neither the KIADB rules nor the Excise rules bar them from running liquor outlets attached to hotels.
