Malaysian firm to bid for monorail project

If selected, they will jointly bid to design, build, own, operate and transfer three proposed monorail routes for the City.

Scomi Engineering Bhd, headquarterd in Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday inked an agreement with Geodesic Techniques as the technology partner and systems integrator for the monorail system. "We will submit our bid on a suo-moto basis to the State government within the next 30 to 40 days,” said Kanesan Veluppillai, president of Scomi International, while speaking to Deccan Herald here.

The proposed Bangalore project will have a total of 54 elevated stations along the three lines with three to four interchange stations. To ensure connectivity with other modes of transport, ancillary structures comprising link ways and sky walks are also planned.
Scomi and its consortium partner, Larsen and Toubro Ltd, India are currently implementing the country’s first monorail project in Mumbai.

Action plan before ABIDe

Sources said in the Infrastructure Development Department, an action plan to this effect has already been presented to members of the Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development.The project now awaits its clearance.

 “The company has been first, asked to prepare a detailed project report on a 15-km corridor, by January 31, 2010. This will be followed by calling of global tenders,” said IDD sources.
