Reputed doctors and medical professors are in the dock for allegedly selling hundreds of medical seats.
Sources told Deccan Herald Kenchappa Gowda, president, Vokkaligara Sangha, who manages KIMS, Rafat Malik, Ibrahim Pasha, Farooq, Mallesh (alias) Malli, Noushad and Vijay Sampangiram have been in the custody of CCB for the last two days. Also arrested was the infamous ‘don’ of Shivajinagar area, Iftiyaz Phailwan.
Explaining the modus operandi, sources said the process of selling seats in medical colleges to students involved two steps. Agents working from an office a prestigious commercial office complex on MG Road collected Rs 5 lakh from students who pursue their ambitions to become doctors without being eligible to attend CET exams. The agents arrange for proxies, who are doctors, to the write the exams for the aspiring students and enable them to get ranking below 150 in the final CET results.
At this stage, the agents along with the knowledge of medical college management officials sent ‘jackies’ to collect from the students money required to ‘buy’ the seat in the respective medical college.
From MBBS to MD, the rates vary, depending on the Common Entrance Test ranking also and range between Rs 40 to Rs 50 lakh.
For higher level courses and better colleges, the charges go as high as Rs one crore.

An officer of the City Crime Branch said: “The market scene of selling seats run to the top of all medical colleges with officials from All India Institute of Medical Sciences being involved. There are only a handful of medical colleges within the state, be it government or private which are clean.”
The City Crime Branch conducted enquiries on Thursday and produced the people under custody before the magistrate at his residence on Saturday.
The case will be brought up before Judge Venkatesh Hulagi on Monday.
