The most-awaited underground section of East-West corridor of Namma Metro from Baiyappanahalli to Mysuru Road will be inaugurated on Friday.

It will be thrown open to public on Saturday. Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate it. A BMRCL source said at least 700 people have been deployed at five underground stations to give final touches and finish the work.

The 18.1 km Baiyappanahalli-Mysuru Road stretch in the Central Business District has 17 stations. Of these, five are underground stations — Cubbon Park (Minsk Square), Vidhana Soudha, Sir M Visvesvaraya (Central College), Kempegowda Intersection (at Majestic) and at the City Railway Station.

For a fare of Rs 40, people can enjoy a seamless ride across both end-stations in just 33 minutes. Metro travels at an average speed of 38 kmph and takes about 1.5 minutes to travel from one station to the next, built at a maximum gap of 1.2 km.
