City in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Thursday held garbage contractor BVG India Private Limited responsible for garbage mess in areas such as Yelahanka, Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Jayanagar.
Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, Reddy said: “We have directed the BBMP officials to clear the garbage bills of the contractors only after they execute the work effectively. BVG has failed to work in this regard.”
The garbage contractor had refused to clear the waste at the above three places claiming that garbage bills have been pending for the last three months.
The minister added that at a few constituencies, action has been taken by slapping a fine against contractors and cancelling garbage contracts. A fine of around Rs three crore was levied on BVG at Yelahanka and new tenders has been floated at 113 wards regarding waste management, he added.
