Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra on Wednesday said he has directed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike to demolish an unauthorised apartment complex of the Prestige Group near Bellandur lake.
He said he has directed the Palike commissioner to raze the property sitting right on top of a stormwater drain (SWD).
Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Jayachandra said that during his recent visit to Challaghatta Valley, he discovered that the building has encroached upon the stormwater drain.
The government has taken up a Rs 1,380-crore project to divert treated sewage water from Challaghatta Valley to fill tanks in Kolar, Chikkaballapur and Anekal taluks. “When I went for an inspection of the project, I found that the width of the SWD had dramatically shrunk from 150 feet to 10 feet. Among the many encroachments was the Prestige apartment near Bellandur lake. I have ordered for its immediate demolition,” he said.
