Food crisis looms large over the country with growing population and lack of innovation in agriculture sector, said Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra.

Speaking at an event organised to mark World Food Day here on Wednesday, he said an increasing number of farmers, after suffering loss in agriculture, were migrating to other lucrative jobs, and the trend will adversely affect the agriculture scenario of the country in the future.

The minister stressed the need for innovative technology and skills in the agriculture sector.

He observed that the benefits of research work were not reaching farmers. Scientists need to develop a variety of seeds and crops which will withstand climate change, are nutritious in content, and yield profits to growers, he said.
