Her memories of the shocking incident came back afresh on Wednesday as she watched someone enact her role.

For Jyothi Uday, the Bengaluru ATM attack survivor, watching the Kannada movie ‘Shuddhi’ was a grim reminder of the attack that took place on her as she went to withdraw cash at an ATM near Corporation Circle.

“The entire scene came in front of my eyes as I watched it,” she told DH just as she saw the movie in a theatre in Bengaluru. Jyothi added that the actual incident was more gruesome than what was portrayed in the movie.

“What happened to me in real was more scary. However, now that he has been arrested and the trial will begin soon, I am glad that justice has prevailed,” she said, speaking about her attacker Madhukar Reddy, who was arrested recently.

Rama Kumar, who played the role of Jyothi in the movie, spent time with the victim speaking about the incident. She said she had never met Jyothi before enacting her role.

The movie was released last month and has drawn a mixed response from audiences. The movie is based on two women journalists seeking justice for women. One of the scenes in the movie is also the attack on Jyothi.
