The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has completed the works on linking Shiva balancing reservoir with Netkal balancing reservoir. The pipeline laid between the reservoirs will streamline the supply of Cauvery water to the city. The pipeline has been laid to the existing Cauvery stage I, II and III to reduce the wastage of water.

Earlier, water was being supplied through an open canal. Addressing the media, Kemparamaiah, Engineer-in-Chief, said, “Until now, the Cauvery water was supplied through an open canal and in the process about 50 cusecs of water was being wasted daily. The 6.2-km pipeline which has been linked now will prevent the water wastage.”

The linking of the pipeline was started in 2013. “We had completed the work by 2015 and we were supposed to link the pipeline from Shiva balancing reservoir to Netkal balancing reservoir last year itself, but it was delayed due to poor rainfall. By linking the pipeline, the water wastage due to evaporation, seepage or illegal connections by the local residents will be prevented. The maintenance work will also be reduced, said Kemparamaiah.
