For the first time in years, indelible ink will be applied on the left thumb of voters during this Lok Sabha elections.
The decision was taken in the wake of recent elections to panchayat and cooperative bodies in certain parts of Karnataka, wherein many people already have the indelible ink mark on their index fingers.
Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha told reporters the Election Commission of India permitted the usage of the indelible ink on the left thumb, keeping in view that many voters have the voting mark on their index fingers.
Seizures
Large sums of money and large quantities of liquor have been seized in the last 24 hours. At Bavali checkpost in HD Kote, Mysore, Rs 8.55 lakh was seized, while Rs 27 lakh was seized at Lingasugur in Raichur, Rs 4.23 lakh in Mangalpet in Bidar, Rs four lakh in Cowl Bazaar, Bellary, and Rs 1.29 lakh in Dharwad. Also, 260 litres of liquor and 62 litres of beer were seized in different parts of the State.
“We seized Rs 21.95 crore in cash, 44,924 litres of liquor worth Rs 2.82 crore and other items worth Rs 2.8 crore. In all, we seized cash and other items worth Rs 27.28 crore in Karnataka,” said Jha.
