The city police have decided to tighten security across the city till September 30 (Friday) to prevent any untoward incidents following the Supreme Court directive to the state to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Prohibitory orders have also been extended till that day.

The next hearing in the Supreme Court is on Friday. The police will also take a decision on whether to deploy additional forces for some more time based on the situation on that day.

The city police had summoned central paramilitary forces, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Karnataka State Reserve Police and City Armed Reserve after violence broke out on September 12 over the Cauvery river dispute.

“The forces will be in the city till September 30. We will review the situation and take a decision on September 30 whether to use forces for some more time,” Additional Commissioner of Police (West) K S R Charan Reddy told DH. The city police had made elaborate security arrangements in the city on Tuesday as the Supreme Court took up the Cauvery river dispute issue for hearing.

The police had deployed 40 platoons of KSRP and 14 platoons of central forces in northern and western areas of the city. The police had beefed up security in these areas to prevent miscreants from indulging in violence, he said.

There was additional security in Byatarayanapura, Laggere, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Rajagopalanagar, Peenya and Yeshwantpur.

The police had also deployed additional forces at railways stations, bus stands, Kempegowda International Airport, shopping malls and other public places to thwart any attempt to spread violence.
