Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), the organisation catering to the educational needs of the wards of transferrable central government employees, recently held its golden jubilee celebration at Seshadripuram Degree College.
Commemorating the members of the KVS Retired Employees Association, it created awareness and stirred discussions on the role of teachers, students, community and practices being followed.
It was attended by members from Bangalore, Chennai, Indore and Hyderabad.
The highlight of the programme was a talk given by chief guest Prof Jayasankaran, former vice-chancellor of Kanchi University.
He spoke about the four types of teachers — the Upadhyaya, Pandita, Acharya and Guru.
Puran Chand, former joint commissioner (academic), KVS, was the guest of honour. He spoke about the history of the institution and how it has been a trendsetter in the field of education through specific case studies.
Secretary K Umamaheshwar Rao pointed out how the association was constituted primarily to support sister educational organisations in matters of academic activities and propagating the cultural heritage of India.
A commemorative souvenir was also released during the function.
The day’s celebrations came to an end with a vibrant cultural programme, which included a solo music recital by Sinchan Dixit.
There were also dances by children as well as a Kamsale dance by the students of Ashraya Trust.
