Officials of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) conducted a special drive against the violation of rules related to vehicle number plates.
Led by Joint Commissioner of Transport J Gnanedra Kumar, officials inspected over 500 vehicles and booked 190 people for decorating name plates with various designations. “Our drive was to make sure people followed the Motor Vehicle Rules when fixing name plates for their cars. We removed the addition of emblems to the name plates as many associations are misusing a permission granted only to government officials,” he said. The joint commissioner clarified that such emblems and designations should not be added to the name plates but put separately on the bonnet.
Emblems of Hopcoms, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, many associations as well as organisations related to state and central governments were removed.
Interestingly, the car with the name of Health and Family Welfare Minister Ramesh Kumar was stopped during the special drive for flouting the ban on tinted glass.
“The windows of car had tinted sheets, which are not allowed according to rules. However, the minister was not in the car during the inspection,” an official said.
