More than 500 garment factory workers  staged a protest in front of the firm they worked for- 'Shahi Exports' situated in Kaggalipura after they learnt the unit was closing  down and its machinery being shifted on Friday morning.

Unit no. 29 of Shahi Exports situated in Pattareddypalya in Kaggalipura on Kanakapura main road had around 1,500 garment workers working for it earlier. All of them were women. A few days back the company stopped transport facilities and several people resigned, said one of the workers.  

On Friday morning, when workers came to work, they noticed that the machinery was being loaded onto a truck.

The workers then staged a sit-in protest till 6 pm until the unit heads  assured the Garments and Textile Workers Union (Gatwu) in front of the police that they will facilitate a meeting with the top management on Monday.
