Most parts of Bengaluru on Thursday experienced showers. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), up to 8.30 pm, the city recorded 6.8 mm rainfall and HAL airport received 0.9 mm rainfall. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city were also near normal.
The maximum temperature in the city was 32.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 22.7 degrees Celsius. The maximum and minimum temperatures at HAL airport were 32.3 and 20.8 degrees Celsius. IMD recorded trace rainfall in the city, HAL and at the international airport.
Sunder M Metri, IMD-Bengaluru director-in-charge said the city, parts of south interior Karnataka, coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka will experience rainfall over the next two days.
He said that this was because of a depression over south-east Arabian Sea close to coastal and south interior Karnataka. IMD has forecast rain and thundershowers over coastal Karnataka and widespread rainfall over south interior Karnataka. For north Karnataka, IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall.
Metri warned that after precipitation, the temperature will soar higher.
Trees uprooted, traffic hit
Following Thursday's downpour, traffic slowed down in most parts of the city. Nagarbhavi, Kengeri, Koramangala, Yelahanka, Indiranagar, Chickpet, Mysuru Road, Banaswadi and surrounding areas experienced heavy rainfall.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) reported four tree falls, one each at Sivananda Circle, Yelahanka New Town, Mallathahalli, and Sheshadripuram. No water logging was reported in the city.
