The steel bridge near Shivananda Circle will soon be a reality as the state government has decided to go ahead with the proposal.
The decision comes after Mahendra Jain, additional chief secretary of the urban development department, rejected local residents' representation against the project, and the same was presented before the high court on Thursday.
Jain had passed an order rejecting the representation on October 31, 2017.
Residents had moved the high court challenging the steel bridge construction at the Sivananda Circle. The court had disposed of their PIL and directed them to make a representation to the government.
Jain's order stated that the construction cannot be stopped as the flyover is critical for the city given the traffic congestion and increasing population.
It also said if every development work is resisted by some affected interest, the city will fall behind in keeping pace with the increase in the population and the number of vehicles.
The order advised the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take certain mitigation measures as suggested by Jain while constructing the bridge.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice H G Ramesh and P S Dinesh Kumar directed the residents to file an amended petition to challenge the order.
The matter has been adjourned to November 16.
