Members of Citizen for Bengaluru, a group of representatives speaking out for citizens who are against the steel flyover on Friday submitted a memorandum to the governor's office.
However, they were unable to meet Governor Vajubhai Vala due to protocol issues. They have sought an appointment from the Raj Bhavan.
Speaking to media, personality Prakash Belawadi said the memorandum has been accepted and the governor could call them in a day or two day. “We hope the governor intervenes and seeks details of the steel flyover project from the government. The government cannot refuse to share the details with the governor, the way it is doing with the common man. It is sad that the government is making allegations that the agitators have personal interest,” he said.
The group submitted a six-page memorandum highlighting the chronology of events, the attitude of the government, plans to cut 812 trees for the flyover, exorbitant cost of the project and inapt public consultation. It also pointed that the construction of steel flyover violates the high court orders and the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act.
It also states that 35,000 people have signed the online petition against the steel flyover and over one lakh tree lovers have opposed the project through the ‘missed call movement’ conducted by Jhatkaa. A public voting on the steel flyover is also being conducted by over 200 volunteers across the city.
The group has been trying since a week to meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to explain him the people’s concern. But the Chief Minister’s Office has been denying them an appointment. The group has also sent out invitations to Siddaramaiah, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George and Bangalore Development Authority Commissioner Rajkumar Khatri to attend the public consultation on steel flyover to be held on Sunday at the Rotary House of Friendship on Lavelle Road.
