Twenty-three students, who secured seats under 25 per cent provision of Right to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, at St Xavier’s School, Electronics City have been denied admissions. The school claimed it was a minority institution.
“The school was in the list of institutions drawn by Block Education Office. Seats were also allotted under the provision. When we sought admission, the authorities said it was a minority school and refused to entertain our request,” said Ramlal, whose granddaughter has been denied seat for LKG.
A DPI official said the school was not a minority institution and has falsely declared so. The aggrieved parents have been frequenting the DPI office to find a solution but in vain.
“The BEO says he has forwarded a complaint to the DPI. Another advised us to collect Rs 10,000 from each parent and hire a lawyer to fight in courts. Where will we find the time and money?” asked Ramlal. Over 200 parents, including those whose children secured seats in St Xavier’s School, staged a protest in front of BEO’s office.
Ten schools in the range have similarly refused admissions claiming minority tag.
