Observing that the condition of the tourist motors and maxi cab owners was in a bad shape, the association said it needed to be addressed immediately.

The association said the number of tourists travelling outside the State through cabs and taxis had drastically reduced. This, in turn, had affected the owners of such vehicles.

Attributing this to high inter-state permit charged by the Karnataka Government, Association Secretary Manjunath K said: “We have to pay about Rs 3,000 to go to Andhra, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,500-1,600 to Tamil Nadu and Kerala, respectively, while people travelling from these states do not need to pay as much.”

The association also said the owners were facing shortage of drivers.
