Assistant sub-inspector B Thimmaiah, attached to the Rajajinagar traffic police station, was suspended from duty on Friday for manipulating the towing vehicle register.

“On April 7, the ASI was assigned the vehicle towing duty. He picked up 31 vehicles from the no-parking zone on Dr Rajkumar Road. But he issued fine receipts of Rs 300 to only 10 vehicles.”

“He levied a fine of Rs 100 for seven two-wheelers instead of Rs 300 and the fine amount collected from the rest of the 14 vehicles was not accounted for. He also entered only 10 vehicles in the towing register instead of 31,” said a senior police officer.

The owner of the towing vehicle, Imtiaz Pasha, found something amiss and informed the police inspector and other senior officers.

A separate list
They questioned the ASI and found that he had maintained a separate list of vehicles which were towed and had manipulated the entries in the towing register.

“The complainant said that Thimmaiah was collecting fines from violators without issuing a receipt. The ASI was suspended as directed by Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (West),” said the officer.
