Two teenage girls were killed after they threw themselves before a moving train near Anekal on the outskirts of the City in Baiyappanahalli railway police station limits on Friday afternoon.

The two, who had apparently entered into a suicide pact, held each other’s hands before they came under the wheels of the speeding Kurla Express bound for Coimbatore from Bangalore around 3 pm. Some passersby made a vain attempt to save them, but the duo was killed instantaneously.

On the basis of a college identity card, one of the victims was identified as Tejaswini R Reddy, a PU student. Efforts are on to establish the identity of the other girl, the police said. It is still not clear what drove Tejaswini and her friend to suicide.

A railway gatekeeper said that he saw the two girls embracing each other before they were run over by the train near Aravantigepura village. It is said that some passersby shouted at the girls to move away from the track but they were unmoved.
