Two waste-to-energy units, each with a capacity of 500 tonnes of waste, will come up at Kannahalli and Mavallipura and tenders have been invited for the purpose, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George informed Legislative Council on Wednesday.
The minister said the seven waste processing plants in the city will be turned into compost manufacturing units. Some companies are willing to take up the work once the places are identified, he added. Urban Development Minister Roshan Baig said the government is in the process of framing regulations to set up waste-to-energy plants.
He informed the House that a cluster of Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad and Kalaburagi will be created for setting up the plants. The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission has fixed a rate of Rs 7.04 paise per unit and Rs 7.09 paise to procure power generated at the waste to energy plants and RDF-based power production units respectively, he said.
