Villagers resume protest against garbage dumping

 The residents of villages in Bytarayanapura Assembly constituency blocked  road in Bellahalli by blocking roads on Saturday, protesting dumping of garbage.

The residents of Mittaganahalli, Kannur, Kogilu Layout, Bella Halli, Srinivasapura, Sathanuru, Bandehosuru and Chikka gubbi took part in the protest. They complained of increasing cases of dengue, chikungunya, malaria and skin diseases due to dumping of garbage.

“We have been protesting against this dumping since a long time. We have also requested the government to solve this problem. In June, the BBMP officials had said that the issue will be solved within three months, but have not done anything so far. Hence we have resumed our protest," a resident said.

Padmanabha Reddy, leader of the Opposition in BBMP council said that stink emanating from garbage dump pervades villages and they were compelled to shift from the place. He said that the BBMP should find an alternative place for dumping garbage.

Muneendra Kumar, BBMP member said leachate from garbage dump flows into Bellahalli and Kannur lakes polluting the water bodies.
