Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers H N Ananth Kumar on Tuesday urged the government not to go ahead with the steel flyover project unless a proper wider public consultation with citizen groups, experts and environment impact study is conducted.

In response to Bengaluru Development Minister K J George's invitation to the meeting on the flyover, Kumar suggested that the state government work out alternative routes to the airport from different parts of Bengaluru, including the Metro project.

The traffic congestion issues in Central and Outer Bengaluru have to be solved with a holistic and integrated approach consisting of effective linkage of mass transport systems of rail, bus and Metro rail and also with infrastructure solutions, he added. He cautioned that no consultation will be meaningful if no requisite information being made available to the public in advance.
