Actor Kavya Shetty has come a long way since her debut in the Kannada film industry with ‘Nam Duniya Nam Style’ which was directed by Preetham Gubbi. A software engineer, Kavya never really set out to be an actor but she always wished to do more than just get stuck in a 9-to-5 job.

That’s when she decided to give films a shot. Her performance in ‘Ishtakamya’, directed by Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, was noticed for more reasons than one.

It was after this that the young lass started getting many offers. But Kavya prefers to be choosy with her projects and believes in doing only meaningful cinema.

With ‘3 Ghante 30 Dina 30 Second’ ready for release, she will next be seen playing the lead opposite Chiranjeevi Sarja in ‘Samhara’.

In an interview with Nina C George, Kavya talks about her future plans.

What made you sign ‘Samhara’?

I found the story to be very different. It is a thriller and it gets interesting as the plot unfolds. The film is entertaining and its gripping narration is sure to keep the audience glued to their seats.

Tell us about your character?

I play the role of a journalist and my character is called Janaki. She is very bold, outgoing and outspoken. Janaki is no ordinary journalist. She is serious about her career and takes on politicians and big wigs in her interviews. The bright and colourful outfits that I wear add to the charm of my character.

How does your role complement that of Chiranjeevi Sarja?

Chiranjeevi plays a chef in the film. He and I are childhood friends who get together to solve a mystery. How I help him get to the heart of the mystery forms the crux of the story.

You are working with Chikkanna again...

This is my third film with Chikkanna and this is the first time that he is playing a cop. He always manages to liven up any dull
atmosphere. This is seen in the comical scenes between Chiranjeevi, Chikkanna and myself in the movie.

How was it working with Chiranjeevi?

This is my first film with him. Even after a continuous 12-hour shoot, Chiranjeevi will still be full of energy and willing to work more. His energy
and enthusiasm is contagious.

Which of your projects is closest to you?

I would go with ‘Ishtakamya’. People still remember me for that role and I don’t think that I will ever get to play a character like that again.

What’s your role in ‘3 Ghante 30 Dina...’?

I play a rich, spoilt brat who owns a television channel. It is a loud but an interesting character.

Do you think heroines have a short-lived career in the film industry?

Not all of them. There are actors who have continued to act even after their
marriage. It all depends on how you carry yourself.

What would you be doing, if you weren’t an actor?

I would have been doing something in the creative field. May be in the fashion industry.

What do you do when you are not acting?

I love travelling. My friends and I make it a point to travel at least twice a year. If there’s one thing that I invest in the most, it is travelling.
