Former legislator and senior BJP leader B P Venkatamuniyappa has resigned as primary member of the party on Thursday.

He withdrew as member of the national council of the BJP and also resigned as the chairperson of the Karnataka Vidyut Karkhane (KVK).

Venkatamuniyappa put in his papers after meeting Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and BJP State president K S Eshwarappa in Bangalore.

Leaders of the party had promised him the ticket from Bangarpet for the forthcoming Assembly polls, but have chosen legislator M Narayanswamy, who moved to the party from the Congress, over him. This bias in treatment has led him to take the step, he said.
