KPCC working president Dinesh Gundu Rao on Thursday said the state government might take a call on providing reservation to economically and socially backward sections among all castes, on the basis of the caste survey report that will be out in January.

Replying to a query on his stand on Justice A J Sadashiva Commission report on internal reservation for the SCs, Rao said the report has not yet been accepted by the state government. Moreover, the socio-economic caste survey conducted by the government is more scientific than the Sadashiva Commission report.

The caste survey throws light on socio-economic condition of each community in the state, he said at a press conference here.

Several people belonging to upper castes such as Brahmins and Vysyas are not economically sound. So, such communities may be given reservation, he added.

On the government’s plan to increase reservation to 70%, the former minister said it can’t be done without a basis. The Supreme Court has capped reservation at 50%. The caste survey might help in this regard, he added.
